5 day trip to Iceland in mid May

neethi86
Hello, My husband and I are going to be traveling to Iceland in May with our infant. We will be renting a car for the entire trip. Would love suggestions on planning our itinerary and places to stay for the night to avoid driving back and forth. We would like to cover Blue Lagoon, Golden Circle and South Coast of Iceland at a minimum, without making it very hectic. We have 5.5 days there. Thanks in advance!

Dear neethi86,

Thank you for participating in our forum.

Well, as we are not a travel agency we do not make travel plans for our readers.
But please send us your itinerary and we will tell you our opinion.

Looking forward to hearing from you again,
Berglind

Please see my itinerary below and let me know if this is workable with a 1 year old. Please also suggest alterations as you see fit and let me know regarding our plan of cities to stay in. Are there things we could remove/add on the way and any way we could fit in Snaefellsness Peninsula?

Day 1:
Land in the AM. Pick up car from Keflavik Airport and go to lodging in Reykjavik. Blue Lagoon. Stay at Reykjavik.

Day 2:
Golden Circle Tour - Thingvellir National Park (Silfra fissure, Oxararfoss waterfall), Geysir in Haukadalur, Gulfoss waterfall. Optional - Laugarvatn lake, Kerid crater, Bruarfoss waterfall. Stay in Selfoss.

Day 3:
Eyjafjallajokull, Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss, Dyrholaey, Reynisfjara Black Sands, cliffs, sea stacks around Vik. Stay at Vik.

Day 4:
Fjadragljufur (feather canyon, waterfall at the end), Skaftafell Natural Reserve - Hidden/Black/Svartifoss Waterfall, Svinafellsjokull glacier, Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach. Stay at Vik.

Day 5:
Drive back to Reykjavik, and head to city tour, whale watching, puffin tour. Stay at Reykjavik.

Day 6:
Pack up and drive to airport.

Please also let me know if a 2WD car is sufficient for this itinerary.

Thanks!

Dear neethi86,

Here you go:

Day 1:
Land in the AM. Pick up car from Keflavik Airport and go to lodging in Reykjavik. Blue Lagoon. Stay at Reykjavik.

It is okay.

Day 2:
Golden Circle Tour - Thingvellir National Park (Silfra fissure, Oxararfoss waterfall), Geysir in Haukadalur, Gulfoss waterfall. Optional - Laugarvatn lake, Kerid crater, Bruarfoss waterfall. Stay in Selfoss.

Yes, this is a good plan.

Day 3:
Eyjafjallajokull, Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss, Dyrholaey, Reynisfjara Black Sands, cliffs, sea stacks around Vik. Stay at Vik.

Perfect.

Day 4:
Fjadragljufur (feather canyon, waterfall at the end), Skaftafell Natural Reserve - Hidden/Black/Svartifoss Waterfall, Svinafellsjokull glacier, Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach. Stay at Vik.

Good.

Day 5:
Drive back to Reykjavik, and head to city tour, whale watching, puffin tour. Stay at Reykjavik.

Good plan

Day 6:
Pack up and drive to airport.

As your itinerary is right now I do not see the possibility of going to Snæfellsnes.

Please also let me know if a 2WD car is sufficient for this itinerary.

Yes, you can. No problem.

Best regards,
Berglind

Iceland is become more crowded nowadays. The no. of tourist exceeds too much is holiday seasons. There are several other travel destinations which can be visited. You can apply for Dubai Visa online which can be obtained in mere 3 days.
