Help needed for Winter travel

David
Grretings-

Will be visiting Iceland the third week of March, staying in the south.  What sites typically can still be visited at this time of the year?

Hi Sindri,

Sorry about the delay in my reply. Crazy time of year at work.

We will actually have 4 days in the area and will be staying overnights in Hella. We will also have use of a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

Am looking for advice on what you think you would consider to be highlights at the end of March. There are 4 adults traveling and 2 of us have already spent some time in the area...of course this was during the summer months when snow and ice were not really a major issue!

We are game for pretty much anything adventure-wise....

The Golden Circle would be a no brainer I guess, especially since this is a first time visit for the other couple.

I personally loved visiting Dyrhólaey, found it to be breath taking!

Also, any suggestions for thermal pools or natural hot springs in the general area?

Thank you for any advice that you can offer!

David

HI!

Thanks so much for the info.

I assume that this suggested itenerary is planned based on spening the night along the route heading east (Vik one night, etc).

We actually will be staying in the same location for the 4 nigths mentioned. The drive to Vatnajokull I remember to be quite a drive, maybe 4-5 hours from Hella-is that correct? Would you still do the same sights if you had to come back to Hella each evening? If not, what would you suggest?

We actually will have another night (a 5th night) at the end of the trip in Reykjavik with most of the following day available for sights/Blue Lagoon before we fly out.

Thanks again!

Hello David,

Sorry, we did not answer sooner.
its christmas ;)

Hella is a very good location and yes, you will drive 4 hours from Hella to Vatnajökull.
Its quite a long drive but it is fine if you are only going to do it once.

I will keep your plan as it is,
Please let me know if I can help more,

Berglind Rós
