Visiting Iceland in the last week of October?

wolfje0806
We woud like to visit Iceland in the last week of October in 2019 (due to school holidays no other week possible). We were hoping to see the northern light before many roads are closed in winter.

Anyone done this in this week? I read that October is very foggy and wet. So isn't it the worst possible month to visit then? :-) Will we even see the beautiful landscapes and/or northern light?

Other question: are there parts of Iceland more beautiful then others? I don't mean tourist attractions; we are mostly interested in the moon-like landscapes I've seen on pictures everywhere. :-) Is that mostly inland or on the Golden Cirkle also?

Thanks so much in advance for the info!

Hello wolfje0806,

You have high chances of seeing northern lights in October.

Please check this link out once in Iceland: http://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/aurora/

You could find great atractions along the south coast. Even "moon-like landscapes" close to Vatnajökull. Look for the "sandur" which are large black ash and sand extensions.

Have a nice trip,
