I'm thinking about a 2 week trip in the summer (2015) with my husband and 9 year old son. We'd like to rent a car and drive around the island, and would like to take a 1 day tour into the interior. So far the only one I've found that looks really good is a bus trip to Askja from Myvatn. Can you recommend any other good day tours that are available around Iceland to see some amazing scenery in the interior? We won't have a 4WD, just a little 2WD Hyundai or such so there's no chance we'll be driving on F roads ourselves.
Also, how does Krafla compare to Askja? If we see Krafla on our own (is it accessible by 2WD?) will Askja look about the same?
Re: What are the best day tours from the ring road?
Hello! I saw your recommendation for a tour operator on my other post (thanks!) but I'd like to find one that is cheaper, without losing too much from the experience. Do you know of any others that are more affordable?
